Liberty - denotes freedom from captivity, soaring to new heights, finding release and relief.
The idea came about following an impromptu message to a friend, discovering it was her husband’s birthday and finding out his favourite bird was an eagle.
In order to celebrate this wonderful man’s birthday, using a reference photo for an initial sketch, Liberty started to take form. Its carving and subsequent printing came about over several two to three hour sessions over the next months. With advice from fellow artists in United Artists of South Birmingham, the final carving and printing process was experimental - the duo colouring only decided in the last moments.
Sadly, prior to being able to gift the print to him, my friend’s husband, supported and loved by friends and family alike, passed away in 2025, with the care and compassion from Birmingham Hospice.
Therefore, in honour of his life, which inspired and uplifted so many, 50% of the sale price of every Liberty print sold will be donated to Birmingham Hospice.
Liberty is an experimental, limited run, varied edition (V/E) of a maximum of 25 prints incl. 2 premium mixed media prints, 1 psychedelic distorted effect print, and an additional 5 Aritist’s Proofs (AP).
APs are rare glimpses into the progression of the carving and/or printing process to get to the final concept. I’ve identified this limited print run as a V/E since it is is almost impossible to get the same shades of yellow and dark brown consistently printed and overlayed with my chosen printing technique.
All prints are made with Caligo Oil-based paint, printed on 10 × 8 in. They are available unframed and framed, ready to hang.
