What is the appeal of the sea?

Mor Cyfnos [Evening Sea] - a painting by Kevin Hargest

I (Mayuri), have always been fascinated by the sea. My mum grew up by the sea in Kenya and it seems that Kev can paint the sea from amalgamated memories from a series of visits over the years.

As I sit to write this today, I am wondering why many of us have such a fascination with the sea. Maybe it’s the noise, that surrounds and envelopes us in a cocoon. Perhaps it’s the power and the fact that we can view this from afar or get wrapped in its mystery. Maybe it’s a recognition of its consistency; the waves noting the passage of time, and yet its ferocity denoting the change of seasons.

Kev’s recent work, Môr Cyfnos (above) depicts the sunset sky just as the day fades to night. The fiery sky brings to mind one of my (Mayuri’s) favourite views on the Pacific Ocean at the opposite end of the day. Wherever you might imagine, we hope the seascapes we will continue to release bring to mind comforting, peaceful, hopeful and serene moments in your life.

Many of our recent works are now available as greeting cards, and we offer commissions if you have a specific place you’d prefer to see captured.

Also check out the Gallery for a selection of Kev’s work depicting seascapes and water
