What is Creativity?

Gorillas For Tea 2.0 by Kevin Hargest

To me (Mayuri) - Creativity is any act or moment in which we make something.

This might be speaking or writing words, cooking a meal, drawing a picture, a doodle, or expressing a thought or idea, out into the world.

So, as Hargest Creative, Kevin Hargest creates abstract paintings (including Gorillas For Tea 2.0 that you can see above), writes books and draws. Mayuri can be found crocheting, doing intricate line art pictures, making baubles and sketchnoting. Ruth (Kev's mum) is a photographer and artist, based in Mid Wales. John (Kev's dad) is a contractor, whose dry stone-walling is a sight of beauty.

I (Mayuri) have a background in chemistry and actually told myself when I was younger that I wasn't creative because I wrongly believed the myth that science and art don't mix. Kev wrote his books over several years and many edits. Creativity isn't linear. We often don't know the final outcome, and sometimes we create for the sake of healing, outpouring and anticipation.

There are also many reasons we tell ourselves that we can't create; but we all create worlds every day. Whether it's through a meal prepared with the random array of ingredients found in the cupboard, or a carefully curated, layered recipe, each is artistry and requires patience and ultimately, hope.

Every time we make something (any expression of us into the world),we make a contribution to the creativity we experience.

What kind of world we make is up to us. At Hargest Creative we strongly believe that each small part makes a small difference, which adds up to a huge big picture that none of us fully comprehend.

We all have a creative bent, it just might not be traditionally 'creative' ; so how do you express yours?
